"New Thought" is a mumbo jumbo movement like many. But aren’t they all. There is something to it though, just not expressed very well.
They believe thoughts control outcomes. “Envision a cheque no a bill and you will get a cheque. Envision a car spot and you will get one. Worry about not getting a car spot and there won’t be one.” They’re a little cray cray and defy logic. But in terms of mood, “Concentrate on the gratitude and the good around you. Have you ever noticed that when you’re in a bad mood things occur around you that make it worse? You draw these things too you.” Yuk, but the gratitude bit makes complete sense. What you think is your experience. Concentrate on the shit and be in a bad mood. New Thought doesn’t account for all those times unexpected bad things happen very well, or when unexpected good occurs. One thing I read even said something along the lines of “In a natural disaster all of those people were in a mindset of being worried about a natural disaster.” although it’s no more encouraging than “Fucked up shit happens for a reason.” (I may be paraphrasing that from the Christians).
“All that we are is a result of what we thought.”
Is simple enough to understand though, and makes enough sense to encourage you to focus on the positive. Not ignoring problems but facing them. Trying to take fear as a sign that you’re on the cusp of something and not to hesitate.
